Diarmuid ó Maolalaí

The World Traveler

coming back from malaysia

she brings me gifts

of unusual kit-kats, strong coffee

like bricks,

decorations

and something called

roe flake. I boil the coffee

each morning

and dip it with curry

flavoured kit-kats, hang the decorations

and leave the flakes

in their packet

on my table. it's not

until she mentions it

I'm reminded

that roe

is a kind of fruit;

I'd been assuming

freeze-dried fish

or something similar

of that nature.
